You've Got to be Kidman Me!!

That's right, we had a real life Hollywood actress shopping in Armstrong's Grassmarket store this weekend! And incase you haven't guessed who it was by the ridiculous blog post title, we're talking about the beautiful Nicole Kidman! Reportedly filming in Edinburgh, alongside Colin Firth, in their new movie The Railway Man; she took some time off on Saturday and went shopping for vintage dresses.

She bought two lovely original vintage, 30s and 50s dresses and even took the time to write a testimonial in our visitors book!

The dress pictured is one of the actual dresses she bought and we feel it captures the angel-like essence she always seems to have about her! Carol, owner of Armstrong's and Son. said "...she just kind of floated around."
I'm sure you'll agree the above image of her wearing Chanel epitomises this statement!

She also managed to compose a short message and sign our visitors book.
It reads "Beautiful Shop - ♥ xxx"

Now lets all keep our eyes peeled for when she reveals herself in these vintage beauties on the red carpet! And fingers crossed she finds the time to recommend us to an A-list friend... or two!

Kyoto Dreamin'

The Kyoto Costume Institute has one of the best collections of antique and vintage clothing in the world, and although we may never get to see it in person, flicking through their digital archive is a real pleasure. Beautifully photographed, with the best time-line we ever did see, it's a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend your lunch break.

Amazing couture pieces like this Jacques Fath dress from 1953 (left) are on show, making us want to step right into them and go to that (sadly imaginary) ball we've all been invited to. The Fath gown has a style so enduring that it's been revived countless times. The digital archives is full of such stunning examples of couture.

And although a couture original may be out of reach for most of us, this late 50s to early 60s dress certainly captures the same romantic feel. Made by Linzi Line, the dress has a boned bodice, cinched in waist and full skirt. Made from a sheer polka dot nylon fabric, the dress even has similar bow details! Adding a crinoline will poof out that skirt nicely. And with wedding season coming up, it would make a fantastic dress to wear to spring weddings! It's available from our ebay store, here.

And just to leave you with this...
*sigh* so beautiful!
